It's NOVEMBER!

I'm happy to say that I am participating in NaNoWriMo again this year.  Last year the competition gave me the push I needed to finish Heather and John's story in Fighting for Heather.  This year, Rio and Raven's outline and notes are being put together and the writing has commenced!

I may not finish this book this month, but I imagine it will be done by the first of 2017.

Stay tuned!

Mac is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

I have to admit...

I just dusted off my notes and completed chapters of Raven and Rio's story and read through all of it tonight.

It made me happy.

I will make time to work on it soon.  I promise.  :)

Life can be so unexpected...

When I accepted that it was time to jump back into the workforce and start earning a more predictable paycheck, I wasn't sure what to expect.

What I did expect was to work somewhere between 20 and 30 hours per week so that I would be home with my kiddos before and after school.  And I did find that - except I voluntarily accepted more hours if I could work from home during those times.  So 20 hours turned to 40 hours each week very quickly...and then 40 hours turned into 45-50 depending on what was happening at the office.

THEN, the kids got out of school and our schedule blew up.  I was asked to come on full-time in the office as a manager.  By the grace of God and a ridiculous amount of random luck, one of my good friends happened to have a college-aged daughter looking for work this summer, so I hired her as our "nanny."  She is AH-mazing!  Seriously.  If I didn't know and love her mama, I'd steal her away forever.

Anyway, life is nuts.  Seriously.

A little while ago, my very best friend got hurt in an accident and spent weeks in ICU because of a brain injury.  I am thrilled to say that she is on the road to recovery, but it was terrifying and shocking to all of us and has been a struggle - for her, obviously - for her family and friends while we stood around frustratingly helpless while she fought to regain her strength.

So.  Life has been unexpected in a lot of ways.  BUT, the voices in my head are still there.  (That sounds...bad. Don't tell anyone I said that.)  I've been tinkering off and on with little bits and pieces of stories, poking around and seeing who was going to take over and what will be written next.  I honestly still don't know...but I do plan to return!  At some point.  :)

Love that there are lovely people out there keeping an eye on my stuff and asking about me.  Y'all are the best.

I'll be back!

Real life and schedules

I walked away from writing for a few weeks while the kids were out of school.  They go back tomorrow but I'm also looking for a "real" job right now, too.  I have no idea what will happen in the months to come.

Rio and Raven will get their story - I just don't have a timeline right now for finishing/publishing it.

For those who have read my first two novels:  Don't forget about me!

I absolutely plan to continue writing, but it will have to be an after-hours kind of thing.  With two kids, that limits my time in the evenings, too.

Thanks for sticking with me!  I'll let you know how things are going when I have a better idea of what's happening around here.

Speechless!

Sales on Bourne to Love Emma lagged after a couple of weeks post-release.  I was hopeful that it would sell more after I released Fighting for Heather.  While working on some things right after FfH released last week, I thought about the KDP promotional opportunities.  I can't do a Kindle Countdown Deal because the book must be priced over $2.99 regularly and mine aren't.  But - BUT - I have the option to make a book free for five days or less during any 90 day period on KDP Select.

I thought it might encourage people to read the first book and maybe buy the second one....

When I first looked at the sales numbers yesterday, a little over a hundred copies had been given away.  That's well over the number I've sold on my best day.

By mid-afternoon, over three hundred copies had been given away.  By dinner, that number was over 450.

The final number for the first day it was offered for free:  FIVE HUNDRED SEVENTY ONE.

Holy crap.

Obviously, the down side of all of that is that I make nothing off of giving books away for free.  The up side:  visibility, name recognition, repeat business if they enjoyed it....

I am keeping this in mind as I work on my next book.  Perhaps Fighting for Heather will be free for a couple of days around the release of the third book in the series.

I never imagined that many people reading my first book.  Wow!

FREE books!

To celebrate the release of Fighting for Heather this week, I thought I should encourage other people to pick up the first book in the series, too.

So.

Friday (12/4/2015) through Sunday (12/6/15), Bourne to Love Emma will be FREE on Amazon!

Happy Reading!

Nail biting... and Teaser Tuesday

It's so exciting when the book goes live and you actually see it on Amazon and you can look at a report that shows it's been purchased.  It's this kind of incredibly surreal moment - something I wrote about people who only existed in my head is now being seen by other people.  Insane!

Then there's the days that follow.  The worry that people won't like what they read.  The wondering if  you should have rewritten more of the book - if the characters should have met differently or if you didn't spend enough time making them three-dimensional.

I got a new 5 star review for Bourne to Love Emma this morning and the reviewer was so excited to find out that Fighting for Heather had just been released....  The two books are so different - at least as far as what the main characters want and the obstacles they have to face.  If someone loved one, will they love the other?  Did I push Heather and John's characters too far outside the 'norm' for contemporary romance?

Argh.  I think I need to unplug for the rest of today.  I have a story in my head that needs to be written and I can't focus on it when I find myself wandering through Amazon and Goodreads and Facebook.  :p

Time to get back to adulting!

Here's the teaser I posted this morning for anyone not following me somewhere else:
